About

The mission of Friends of SASP is:

  • To ensure the future of the park by preserving and protecting its economic, aesthetic, and environmental worth for future generations;

  • To enhance the quality of educational, interpretive, and recreational opportunities in San Angelo State Park;

  • To recruit and organize volunteers, promote regional support, solicit finances, and other resources for the perpetuation of San Angelo State Park;

  • To solicit, receive, and administer gifts, memorials, and endowments for the benefit of San Angelo State Park.

Friends of SASP have a fourteen-year history serving to fulfill the mission. With an annual budget of $15,000 - $20,000, we have provided funds and volunteers for maintenance and enhancement projects. Examples are: Purchase of building for gatehouse, purchase of equipment for park maintenance including two trailers, mowers, lighting, electrical repair, and paint, markers for the hiking and equestrian trail, horse pens and office equipment including furniture, computers, and accessories.

We built and maintain a Wildlife Viewing Blind for nature study and bird watching.

Public events are sponsored and staffed by our volunteers including Senior Citizen Day, Free Day in the Park, trail rides, bike races, dog shows, bird watching, and day camp for youth. Trail work days are organized and food provided.

We maintain the Gatehouse Gift Shop with park-related articles for sale.
